Andrew Cuomo
Former Governor of New York
Andrew Cuomo served as New York’s 56th governor from 2011 until his resignation in August 2021. A Democrat and son of former Gov. Mario Cuomo, he became nationally prominent for his leadership during the COVID‑19 pandemic.
In late 2020 and early 2021, multiple women—including former aides, an executive assistant, a state trooper, and guests at official events—accused Cuomo of unwanted kissing, groping, sexual comments, and inappropriate behavior between 2013 and 2020. A state attorney general’s report released in August 2021 concluded that Cuomo sexually harassed at least 11 women, sometimes using state resources to retaliate against accusers.
Cuomo denied any illegal conduct, describing interactions as innocent or misinterpreted. Following mounting pressure he resigned in August 2021. Several criminal investigations were launched, but all charges were eventually dropped or declined.
In 2024, an aide who worked for Cuomo agreed to a $450,000 settlement with the state of New York over her claim that officials had not done enough to prevent Cuomo’s alleged harassment.
