William “Smokey” Robinson Jr. is an American R&B and soul singer, songwriter, record producer, and former Motown executive. He led The Miracles, served as vice president of Motown Records, and had a successful solo career.

In 2025, four former housekeepers filed a $50 million lawsuit alleging that Robinson and his wife committed repeated sexual assault and rape between 2007 and 2024. Two of the accusers described more than 20 instances of rape.

In response, Robinson filed a $500 million counterclaim for defamation and elder abuse, calling the allegations false attempts to extort and tarnish his reputation.
