Virgil Paul “Virg” Bernero served as mayor of Lansing, Michigan from 2006 to 2018, after serving in the Michigan House and Senate.

In June 2021, former intern Liz Hart filed a lawsuit alleging that between 2013–2014, Bernero sexually harassed her daily. She claims he made frequent late-night calls, made sexual comments about her feet, touched her feet sexually, asked to see her breasts, and proposed a threesome with another intern. Several other women also made accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior against Bernero.
